Derby Kids’ Camp has launched an appeal to help fund meals for the hundreds of children attending its summer camps this year.

The children’s charity is calling on fellow Marketing Derby Bondholders to back its Feed the Fun campaign to help bridge an unexpected gap in its food budget.

Every summer, over 300 young children from Derby and Derbyshire – supported by around 200 volunteers – attend camp, with its ‘kitchen-under-canvas’ producing more than 9,000 fresh, nutritious meals every year.

However, this summer, Derby Kids’ Camp is facing an unexpected shortfall in its food budget – and the charity is turning to the Bondholder community for help.

Sarah Armitage, chair of Derby Kids’ Camp, said: “Good food is at the absolute heart of what we do at Derby Kids’ Camp.

“These children are active, energetic and full of life – and they need proper, nutritious meals to keep them going.

“We take real pride in the quality of food we provide, and we never want that to change.

“But this year, we’ve hit an unexpected gap in our funding, and we’re asking our wonderful community to help us fill it.

“Every single penny donated goes directly towards giving these children the holiday they deserve.”

Derby Kids’ Camp is a volunteer-run charity providing affordable, memorable summer holiday experiences for children in Derby and the surrounding area.

Every year, hundreds of children enjoy a week of outdoor activities, friendships and adventures – all made possible by the dedication of volunteer teams and the generosity of the community.

While there, every child on camp receives three hearty, home-cooked meals a day, plus treats such as cocoa and biscuits.

All food is sourced locally where possible, with fresh produce coming from a local butcher, dairy and fruit and veg suppliers.

Meals are planned carefully by a dedicated team of trained volunteer cooks, who deliver high-quality, nutritious food on a tightly managed budget.

Derby Kids’ Camp is now asking supporters to consider one of three giving levels – but said that any contribution, large or small, will make a real difference.

£6.80 will fund a child’s breakfast, lunch and dinner for a day.

£47.60 will fund a table group of children’s breakfast, lunch and dinner for a day.

£285.60 will feed a table group of kids for their entire week on camp.

Sarah added: “We know times are tough for a lot of people right now – but a little really does go a long way for us.

“Whether you can spare £6.80 or a little more, you’re not just feeding a child for a day – you’re playing a part in a holiday that could stay with them for the rest of their lives.

“We’re so grateful for every single person who gets behind Feed the Fun.”
