Architects secure permission for ‘TV worthy’ subterranean home

Architecture firm JSA Architects is celebrating after securing planning permission for a ‘TV worthy’ subterranean Derbyshire home.
Erewash Borough Council recently granted permission for the striking contemporary family home at Little Eaton, with councillors describing the design as an “architectural masterpiece fit for TV”.

Known as ‘Windy Rise’, the two-storey subterranean residence for a private client features an indoor swimming pool, home gym and indoor courtyard.
The futuristic design prompted comparisons to television architecture, with one councillor declaring she had never seen “anything like this apart from on TV”. The project received overwhelming council support.
JSA Architects is an interdisciplinary practice, which works on projects from hotels to offices, but specialises in contemporary residential design, combining bold vision with practical planning expertise.

The practice has achieved a 97% planning success rate since 2020, built on its “no-nonsense approach that simplifies complex projects for clients”.
Director Chris Wood said: “We try to adopt a straightforward approach, which means clients get the results they want without the usual planning headaches.
“Everyone knows the planning system can be slow and bumpy – we work with councils and case officers to cut through that complexity and deliver results we can all be proud of.
“Despite its bold design, Windy Rise was approved on time and without a single design change along the way.”
