Air IT Group has been announced as the headline sponsor of a forthcoming walkathon, which will raise cash for a foundation backed by Derbyshire County Cricket Club.

The T20 Walkathon is an annual event that raises much-needed funds to support valuable community projects, like the Derbyshire Cricket Foundation’s summer holiday camp.

Running throughout the school holidays, these camps allow children to participate in multisport activities, create new friendships and discover new skills.

The foundation tackles issues that affect local residents, one of which is food poverty, and so the summer camps also provide the children with a healthy meal.

Now, Air IT Group, which is a long-standing supporter of Derbyshire County Cricket Club, has been named the headline sponsor of the event, which has been named the Air IT T20 Walkathon.

As well as sponsoring, several of its staff will be taking on the 20-mile walking challenge to raise money for community projects provided by the foundation.

Richard Wood, head of the Derbyshire Cricket Foundation, said: “It is fantastic to have Air IT on board as our headline sponsor for this year’s T20 Walkathon.

“Their support and the money we raise through the sponsored walk will help us to deliver some key projects that can really have a positive impact on the local community.

“The sponsorship and support of Air IT will help us to deliver a summer programme, providing both physical activity and food provision to children within Derby.

Ryan Duckett, chief executive of Derbyshire County Cricket Club, said: “It is fantastic that Air IT have agreed to be the headline sponsor of this year’s Walkathon.

“We have had tremendous support once again from the business community across Derby and the wider county.

James Healey, chief operating officer at Air IT, said: “Air IT has been a supporter of Derbyshire County Cricket Club for several years and many of the Air IT team are passionate about sport, so we’re really excited to be able to visit the club once again and help raise money for a great cause.

“Twenty miles is a long distance after a year of staying at home but the team are up for the challenge.”

Taking place on Friday 2 July, the 20-mile route will take walkers from the Incora County Ground through several of the Derbyshire countryside’s beauty spots and local cricket clubs.

On their return to the ground, participants will be able to relax and enjoy the T20 match between Derbyshire Falcons and Worcestershire Rapids.

There is also a smaller five-mile route, with a later start time, for families or anyone who would like a more relaxed walk.
