Embassy moves online from Cannes

An exclusive insight into Derby’s economic recovery plan is to be given at Marketing Derby’s forthcoming Derby City Embassy.

The event, which will take place online on Wednesday, 17 March, will also feature major investors, who will reveal why they are ploughing almost half a billion pounds into key schemes in the city.

The Embassy event normally takes place during MIPIM, a major international property investment show, held in Cannes, in the south of France.

However, due to the pandemic, a physical MIPIM event is not taking place this year, so Marketing Derby is taking the event online due to demand.

Over 200 attendees will hear from Derby City Council’s director of city development, David Fletcher, who, along with deputy leader Councillor Matthew Holmes, will share their plan for the city’s recovery.

They will outline some of the schemes included in a recently published online Derby Investment Prospectus, which showcases 17 major investment opportunities.

The prospectus lists ongoing projects, shovel-ready schemes and pipeline developments that have the potential to give the local economy a major boost.

During the hour-long session, which takes place from 9am, they will also hear from two key investors in Derby – Ken Ford, who is an advisor to Cale Street – the London-based Kuwait Investment Fund – which last year took full ownership of the Derbion shopping centre and Paul Morris, director at St James Securities, the developer behind the £200 million Becketwell regeneration scheme.

John Forkin, managing director of Marketing Derby, who will host the session, said: “MIPIM is an important event where we pitch to investors in a dynamic mix of set piece presentations and meetings.

“This is the second year it has been cancelled, which is why we decided to hold an Embassy event online to share progress and sustain confidence in Derby as a place to invest.

“We have been bowled over by the positive response, which well exceeds the number we would have spoken with in Cannes.”
