Call for Bondholders to support Birthday Box scheme

An initiative designed to make sure underprivileged and vulnerable children can celebrate their birthdays is calling on Marketing Derby Bondholders to lend their support.

Birthday boxes were the brainchild of Claire Twells, a partner at Smith Partnership Solicitors.

Through her charitable work, she was told of cases of children who do not receive gifts because of great difficulties in their home life.

She said: “Some children are living with guardians or carers and all of their resources go to putting food on the table.

“This means children, who have already had really tough, often violent, lives are having to miss out on birthday celebrations.

“I thought it would be a good idea to try to get a box of small gifts to a boy and girl from needy families every month.

“The boxes contain cake, candle, balloon, gift, socks, pants, pyjamas, colouring pens and colouring books. Also, we are seeking educational toys and games.

“I am on the board of Derby’s Finest, which is a growing group of Derby businesswomen and they were keen to get behind the Birthday Box concept too.”

A number of Bondholders have lined up to help, including Smith Partnership, Project D, EVAD and EMA Training.

Claire said: “The project has grown well beyond my expectations – we have a request for over 30 boxes with that number rising daily.

“Therefore, it would be great if we could garner help from other business leaders – particularly, the ones who are doing well during this horrible pandemic.”

Businesses who would like to get involved should e-mail Claire.Twells@smithpartnership.co.uk.
