University Announces Expansion Double
Bondholder University of Derby celebrates twice after announcing a combined 80,000 sq ft of expansion plans to its portfolio.
First of all, the stunning £20 million copper building in the city, Friar Gate Square, is to become new home to Derby Law School. Occupying 32,000 sq ft over six floors there shall be:
- an open plan specialist law library;
- additional and modern teaching and lecture rooms; and
- two fully compliant court rooms – Magistrates and Family Court.

Secondly, the University of Derby has submitted £12million plans for a 48,000 sq ft extension to its Markeaton Street Campus to handle the increasing demand for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects.
The news comes six months after the University secured £5million from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE).

Willmott Dixon is the leader contractor on the project. Designs were created by CPMG Architects, while Bondholder Rodgers Leask and CPW will act as structural engineer and building services engineer respectively.
