The proposed development for 244 student apartments which complements the University of Derby's recent 33-year lease of One Friar Gate Square has gained planning permission by council planners at Derby City Council's planning earlier this week (Thursday 26th November).

The project, known as Agard Court, will stand from three to nine storeys tall and comprise of 244 one-bedroom en-suite rooms arranged in groups of four and six units.

The proposal also includes a new stairway to Friar Gate Bridge, a new courtyard and associated landscaping.

Whilst local residents previously claimed the building could negatively impact the appearance of the nearby Grade I listed building, letters supporting the scheme claim it will have 'significant economic benefits' for the area.
