Jef Todd from Bondholder BSP Consulting tries out the virtual reality experience at MIPIM UK

Marketing Derby have this week at MIPIM UK unveiled a 3D Virtual Reality model of Derby city centre.

Working closely with Bondholder University of Derby, Marketing Derby has used cutting-edge technology through Oculus Rift which allows potential investors and developers to get a feel for several key development sites in the city centre, ahead of visits to the city.

Potential uses for building on the model are already being considered and should allow developers to contextualise any new schemes for Derby to give planners and residents an idea of what they will feel like ahead of construction.

“We have seen static models at conferences across the globe and they never fail to impress. As the UK Capital for Innovation, we felt that it was important to look at how the next generation of technology can be used to showcase opportunities in the city. Oculus Rift virtual reality and the work done by the University of Derby looks set to be a major asset to marketing Derby going forward”
— Martin Rawson, Deputy Leader of Derby City Council
