Fresh consultation opens on new Local Plan for Derby

Residents and businesses now have a second opportunity to have their say on a new Local Plan setting out the future development of Derby.

A fresh consultation has now opened on the key planning policy document, which sets out how land in the city will be used for homes, jobs and services until 2043.

It follows a consultation in January that drew over 500 responses.

As part of that initial consultation, Derby City Council invited DEDAC (Derby Economic Development Advisory Committee) to share its views, which resulted in a specially curated workshop facilitated by Marketing Derby.

That feedback has been reviewed and the proposals updated.

The new plan, covering the period to 2043, makes provision for at least 12,500 new homes.

Growth is planned for the city centre, as well as suburban areas including Littleover, Chaddesden, Spondon and Mickleover, supported by existing arrangements with neighbouring authorities.

Alongside housing, around 130 hectares have been earmarked as “employment land” to provide space for businesses and workplaces, including at nationally significant locations such as Infinity Park Derby.

A retail-led regeneration strategy is proposed to strengthen the city centre as a thriving, attractive destination for residents, workers and visitors.

“Thank you also to everyone who had their say in the earlier consultation. Your views were heard and helped shape this latest version.

“Now we want to hear from you again on whether you think these proposals are realistic and deliverable for our city.

“This is a key document that has an impact on all of us in Derby. We all want it to be a place that meets the needs of its residents and businesses, and this plan help deliver that outcome.”
