Friends step out in aid of holiday centre

Two friends have completed a 102-mile walk in aid of Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre.

Stuart Boon recently took on the five-day walk around Derbyshire with his best friend Xavier Andrews to raise vital funds for the Skegness centre, which has been providing free seaside stays for deserving youngsters since 1891.

Stuart, who himself attended the centre in the 1990s, said: “I used to go to the home, and it’s given me a lot of memories.

“It’s important for the children because they haven’t had a holiday whatsoever and it’s good for them to have that week away.”

The walking challenge involved the pair visiting different places in Derbyshire where the charity is working with disadvantaged children by providing them with the opportunity for a break.

The pair started out on their walk in Glossop before taking in Bakewell, Chesterfield, Alfreton, Belper, Derby, Kilburn, Heanor, Ilkeston, Spondon and Swadlincote.
