Cavendish & London Property Group has announced it has received planning permission to create high quality apartments in the heart of Derby’s Cathedral Quarter.

The firm has been given the go-ahead by Derby City Council to transform the upper floors of 14-22 St James’s Street, currently vacant office space, into 15 apartments.

The project also includes enhancements to the ground-floor commercial frontage, which will help create a more attractive and active streetscape.

Cavendish & London said that the introduction of approximately 15 to 20 new residents will increase footfall throughout the day and evening, helping to support nearby businesses, cafés, restaurants and local services.

In turn, this additional activity will play a role in strengthening the local economy and supporting the ongoing regeneration of St James’s Street and the surrounding area.

In a statement, Cavendish & London said: “This marks a significant milestone for a project that has been more than 16 months in the making.

“Securing planning permission represents the culmination of extensive design, planning and consultation work, and demonstrates a shared commitment to unlocking the potential of existing buildings within Derby’s urban core.

“This redevelopment forms part of a wider movement towards bringing underutilised buildings back into productive use.

“By repurposing vacant upper-floor space, the project will not only deliver much-needed housing but also contribute to the long-term vitality of the city centre.”

With approval now in place, Cavendish & London said it is looking forward to commencing works soon.
