College achieves prestigious accreditation for ‘student-first’ approach

Derby College Group is celebrating after achieving a nationally recognised accreditation for student support.

It has been awarded Matrix Standard accreditation, following a comprehensive external assessment conducted in March

The standard is the international quality benchmark for organisations delivering information, advice and guidance services.

This achievement recognises the college’s continued commitment to providing high-quality, student-centred support that empowers individuals to make informed decisions about their education, careers and future.

The assessment, carried out by The Growth Company on behalf of the Department for Education, confirmed that Derby College Group had met the standard following a rigorous five-day review process, including site visits, interviews with staff, students and partners, and detailed evaluation of systems, strategies and outcomes .

The assessment highlighted a number of key strengths across the organisation, including the passion and dedication of staff, the breadth of partnerships with employers and external agencies and a strong commitment from senior leadership to continuous improvement and high-quality student support.

The report also recognised the scale and impact of Derby College Group’s provision, supporting over 13,500 students across Derby and Derbyshire, with a clear strategic focus on educational excellence, social mobility and economic development .
