Derby College Group is set to host a flagship event highlighting women in engineering.

Taking place on Wednesday 11 February, it will coincide with International Women in STEM Day, and will bring together global engineering leaders, inspiring speakers and young people to explore the future of engineering.

It will be held at the new East Midlands Institute of Technology (EMIoT), situated at the college’s Roundhouse campus, on Pride Park.

EMIoT is a specialist hub designed to deliver high-level technical education and training aligned directly with the needs of modern industry.

The evening will explore why women are vital to the future of engineering, the wide range of careers available, and the many different routes into the industry, from apprenticeships and college courses to long-term professional pathways.

Attendees will hear real-world stories from people working in engineering today, ask questions, and take part in hands-on activities while learning more about the courses and opportunities available at Derby College Group.

Johanna Sendallar, teacher of engineering at Derby College Group and coordinator of the event, said: “This event is about showing young people what engineering really looks like today – creative, collaborative, high-tech and full of opportunity.

“We want everyone who attends to leave knowing there is a place for them in this industry, whatever their background or starting point.”
