The latest deals done in Derby

A software firm relocating to a major office complex heads the list of deals done in Derby over recent weeks.

Licence Check, which is behind technology that manages driver and vehicle compliance has taken space at Cardinal Square.

It has taken 2,300 sq ft at Nurton Developments’ Derby office scheme.

Licence Check, which was founded in 2008 and is now owned by parent company Ebbon Group, has been based in Derby since 2016 after initially operating in Nottingham.

The new offices have had a contemporary fit out prioritising breakout areas with comfortable and soft seating, rather than a desk heavy environment, where its tech-led teams can come together to communicate and innovate when working in the office.

Katy Holding, head of marketing at Davis Licence Check, said: “As a software-led business, our people can technically work from anywhere.

“However, we recognise the importance of having a state-of-the-art, smart enabled, high-quality, central base, which reflects our business and supports wellbeing through real, meaningful connections.

“Our previous city centre office had become dated, but we were keen to stay in Derby, being centrally located and easily accessed from across the UK.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming clients and partners to our new space, which truly reflects the kind of business we are today.”

David Dyas, asset director at Nurton Developments, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Licence Check to Cardinal Square.

“Their relocation demonstrates the ongoing appeal of the building with its excellent location, green courtyard and flexible modern design.

“Cardinal Square continues to meet the evolving needs of today’s way of working.”

Meanwhile, in retail, the Derbion shopping centre is continuing to welcome new arrivals.

Premium British fashion brand Crew Clothing is the latest to take space at the centre.

Located on Level 2 next to Hobbs, its new 1,200 sq ft store offers a wide selection of the brand’s smart casual staples inspired by the coast.

It is the brands only standalone store in the East Midlands.

The announcement follows Derbion’s update that Primark is set to open at the centre in 2027, and a raft of major openings including Victoria’s Secret, Castore and Seasalt, alongside reinvestments from leading retailers such as JD, Pandora and Moss.

In the New Year, Derbion will also welcome a new addition to its food and drink offer.

Wingstop UKI will open next to the Food Terrace on Level 2 of the centre in February.

Founded in 1994 in Texas, Wingstop quickly became one of the fastest-growing restaurant chains in the US before coming to the UK in 2018.

Wingstop UKI has expanded across the country with over 70 locations, and the new Derbion eatery will be its first location in Derby.

Beth McDonald, managing director at Derbion, said: “The arrival of Wingstop will further expand our wide-ranging and ever-growing dining offer and meet the evolving needs of our customers.

“We’re thrilled that Wingstop has selected Derbion as the destination for its first-ever Derby-based location, and we’re confident that it will be incredibly popular with visitors once open.”
