Rolls-Royce is reflecting on a highly successful Paris Air Show at which it secured a glut of new orders for engines it makes in Derby.

At the event, which took place last month, the engineering giant, which has its civil aerospace division in Derby, secured multiple contracts to supply more than 140 aircraft engines.

As a result, it will see its Sinfin site build 90 Trent XWB-97 engines, 40 Trent 7000 engines and 12 Trent XWB-84 engines for companies across Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Taiwan and Vietnam.

Rolls-Royce said the deals followed a £1 billion investment to the Trent engine family aimed at improving their durability and efficiency.

Speaking during the 2025 International Paris Air Show, external, Ewen McDonald, chief customer officer for the firm’s civil aerospace division, said the new orders will help protect skilled jobs in Derby and ensure strong production volumes well into the 2030s.

He said: “The market opportunity right now is very buoyant. It’s always rewarding to see Rolls-Royce succeeding and keeping our factories busy with long-term engine orders.”

In total, Rolls-Royce announced five major engine deals at this year’s Paris Air Show.

They were:

*AviLease, based in Saudi Arabia, placed an order for 20 Trent XWB-97 engines to power 10 Airbus A350F freighter aircraft.

*Riyadh Air, Saudi Arabia’s newest national carrier, placed an order of 50 Trent XWB-97 engines that will power 25 Airbus A350-1000s.

*Taiwanese based Starlux Airlines placed an order for 20 Trent XWB-97 engines that will power 10 Airbus A350-1000 widebody aircraft.

*EgyptAir has ordered an additional 12 Trent XWB-84 engines that will power six Airbus A350-900s, which takes the airline’s total order of Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-84 engines to 32.

*Vietnam’s Vietjet Air has placed an order for 40 Trent 7000 engines, that will power 20 Airbus A330neo aircraft.

The largest order, in terms of engine numbers, was placed by Riyadh Air.

The order for 50 Trent XWB-97 engines will help fulfil the airline’s ambitions to fly to more than 100 global destinations by 2030.

Rob Watson, Rolls-Royce’s president of civil aerospace, said: “We’re looking forward to supporting the significant growth ambitions of Riyadh Air in its launch year.

“The Trent XWB-97 is an incredible engine and our TotalCare package will provide operational certainty across the fleet.”

“The engine will benefit from the £1 billion investment we’re making to the Trent engine family that improves their durability and efficiency across all operations.

“We look forward to supporting these new aircraft as they enter service.”
