Derby City Council has been awarded a further £750,000 to invest in initiatives that help make the city safer.

The latest allocation from the Home Office brings the total amount Derby has received from the Safer Streets Fund to £1.7 million.

The fund was launched by the Government to invest in initiatives which target neighbourhood crime, violence against women and girls, and anti-social behaviour in areas across England and Wales.

The city council intends to use the latest cash to build on work already delivered through previous Safer Streets Funding allocations.

To date, the funding has supported the Safe Derby campaign, additional street-lighting and CCTV and an upgrade to the city’s CCTV control room.

Councillor Matthew Eyre, the city council’s cabinet member for community development, place and tourism, said: “I’m really proud of all our teams for pulling together this incredibly successful bid.

“To have been awarded the maximum amount is a real testament to what we’ve done so far, and will allow us to continue this important work, alongside our partners, to achieve the best for Derby.”
