Elliot Mather support YMCA

Bondholder Elliot Mather LLP has announced that fellow Bondholder YMCA Derbyshire will be its Charity of the Year for 2019.

Staff at the solicitors practice based on Friar Gate in Derby were inspired to support the charity, which works to empower young people across the city and county, after attending a Marketing Derby breakfast meeting at YMCA Derbyshire in 2018.

The team at Elliot Mather LLP has already raised in excess of £750 for its chosen charity through members of its commercial team participating in the annual YMCA Derbyshire ‘Sleep Easy’ challenge in March 2018.

After braving a wet night sleeping in the elements at Derbyshire County Cricket Club for the Sleep Easy, Chelsie McGahan, Paralegal at Elliot Mather LLP, wanted to see if she and her colleagues could do more to support the vital work that YMCA Derbyshire do and it was decided that the team would take part in 2019 challenge events to raise funds.

Chelsie said: “We were truly inspired when we attended the YMCA London Road Campus last year, so choosing YMCA Derbyshire as our Charity of the Year was not a difficult decision. We are delighted to be able to support a charity which does so much for our local community and we are all looking forward to taking on new challenges to help raise funds”

The funds raised throughout the year will go directly to support YMCA Derbyshire’s Changing Lives programme, which ensures a safe place for local young people to live, learn, and make the transition to independent adulthood.

Sarah Crane, Fundraising and Communications Manager at YMCA Derbyshire, said: "We are delighted that Elliot Mather LLP has named us as its Charity of the Year. It is really heart-warming to see how staff have been inspired so far to raise funds for us. We are a Foyer learning and accommodation centre who invest in the talents of young people to further their opportunities. We believe that everyone has the talent and ability to create their own future. It’s great to see Elliot Mather LLP so on-board with the work that we do locally and we very much look forward to working with them over the coming year.”

On helps YMCA Derbyshire raise the roof at charity event

Bondholder On Event Production Co teamed up with fellow Bondholder YMCA Derbyshire recently to help create a memorable evening of fundraising and entertainment.

YMCA recently held its 2018 Ceilidh Dinner and Fundraiser at Bondholder Derbyshire County Cricket Club, to raise awareness and vital funds for its ‘Safe Front Door’ campaign.

On Event Production Co., which is based in Castle Donington, took a table of ten at the event, but also provided full technical support in the form of lighting, sound, video screen and staging on the night free of charge.

All money raised from the event will go towards the YMCA campaign and will make a huge difference to the support and positive activities they can provide to young people in Derbyshire.

It will enable YMCA Derbyshire to provide not only a safe place to live, but also the positive activities, volunteer and work experience opportunities needed to enable young people to move on to training, education, employment and independent living.

This is the second time in 2018 that On Event Production Co. has supported the charity.
Earlier this year, the firm took part in the charity’s 2018 Sleep Easy challenge, which saw a team of 10 colleagues sleep under the stars in cardboard boxes and sleeping bags, helping to raise more than £3,000 in the process.

Guy Eaton, Managing Director at On Event Production Co., said: “We’re a socially-responsible business and were delighted to strengthen our partnership with fellow Bondholder YMCA Derbyshire by supporting this event, not only by taking a table but also by lending our expertise to provide production and event management services on the night.

“YMCA Derbyshire does such vital work with vulnerable young adults in the city and across the county and is a cause that is close to all our hearts here at On.”

Sarah Crane from the Derbyshire YMCA went on to comment: “On did us proud by setting a great ambience with the lighting and set, we received many comments on  how fantastic the room looked”

Derby Grammar Raises Africa Money

Representatives from Bondholder YMCA Derbyshire visited fellow Bondholder Derby Grammar School to present them with a cheque for £350 towards their fundraising to support Gedeli B School in Mwanza, Tanzania.

Derby Grammar School support the residents of the YMCA through harvest festival donations and shoe box gifts at Christmas. The YMCA, through its SOLID committee wanted to repay this generosity by raising money for the Grammar School’s Tanzania project which supports school-children at Gedeli B School in Mwanza.

Lee Joseph, a SOLID committee member, explained: “SOLID stands for Shout Out Loud in Derby. It is a committee formed by YMCA residents to volunteer on projects in our local community. We often support local schools and groups by donating time for building or groundwork projects, but for Tanzania we wanted to do something different.”

They came up with the idea of a cake sale and were delighted when fellow Bondholder East Midlands Trains agreed they could sell the cakes at Derby train station.

SOLID committee member Michaela Barford added: “We baked 300 cakes at YMCA on London Road, and had some donated. It felt really good to be raising money for a good cause like Gedeli B School. For our group of YMCA residents, it took some of us out of our comfort zone by selling the cakes and meeting people, but it really helped develop confidence. And after raising £350 we all felt a huge sense of achievement.”

Derby Grammar School has supported Gedeli B School in Mwanza, Tanzania since 2013. To date over £65,000 has been raised which has built two toilet blocks, two classrooms and a special needs classroom.

Funds have also enabled the installation of electricity and water, as well as the purchase of resources including desks, chairs and exercise books.

YMCA's Sleep Easy

Bondholder YMCA's Derbyshire’s 2017 Sleep Easy event is taking place on Friday 31st March, at fellow Bondholder Derbyshire County Cricket Club's 3aaa County Ground.

All the money raised from YMCA Derbyshire's Sleep Easy event goes towards the Safe Front Door Campaign. This campaign enables YMCA Derbyshire to continue providing safe accommodation, opportunities for young people to engage in positive activities, work experience and volunteer opportunities and gain business mentors.

Many Bondholders have previously taken part in the event, including Toyota Manufacturing UK, Bell and Co and Geldards.

Richard Salt, Managing Director of Bell & Co, said: "The Sleep Easy was anything but! I did it with my friend Simon Storey from the Derbyshire Cricket Club and a team of willing volunteers from Bell & Co. I found it challenging and perhaps life changing.

"I understand we changed lives along the way and hence the frozen shoes I woke to were worth it! I’d thoroughly recommend this experience to any business looking for a really great cause to support. It really helped us raise our game and team build too."

Simon Storey Chief Executive of Derbyshire County Cricket Club has signed up for his fourth year running and said: “Events such as Sleep Easy highlight the very difficult plight that homeless people are facing every day and every night in this country. “I would encourage people to support this very good cause as generously as possible by participating or sponsoring participants in Sleep Easy 2016."
