The Derbyshire Institute of Sport

Supporting the club

Two Marketing Derby Bondholders have formed a winning partnership to nurture the best talent in the county.

The Derbyshire Institute of Sport (DIS) supporters club is now sponsored by recruitment companies Sky Recruitment Solutions and Capella Professional, both run by entrepreneur David Torrington.

All new clients who use either of David’s companies to recruit staff will have a 12-month membership of the DIS supporters club paid for by him. The usual cost is £500.

Chloe Maudsley, head of operations at DIS, explained: “The supporters club is an important funding stream that allows us to inspire and support athletes from Derbyshire to become world-class.

“We are delighted to be working with David because his companies share our values. We both identify people with potential and nurture them to step into the roles that they were born to play."

Membership of the supporters club entitles businesses and individuals to a range of benefits including promotion online and on social media, a monthly e-newsletter and an invitation to meet and network with other supporters, sponsors and some of the DIS coaches and athletes at monthly social evenings, starting in September.

David said: “I first became aware of DIS through my daughter, who swims with a local club. My companies are proud to be Derbyshire-based and we aspire to perform at the highest level and showcase all that’s great about our county – everything that DIS is about. It seemed like a natural fit and we’re delighted to be helping raise awareness of how local businesses can help talented young athletes secure a place on the winner’s podium.”

Those ‘medal’ling athletes

Six Gold, six Silver and three Bronze – no it’s not the content of a treasure trove, it’s the medal haul being brought back by Derby & Derbyshire athletes from the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

They truly have done us proud and if Derbyshire were a Country we would stand 11.5th in the overall medal table in between Malaysia and Singapore.

From cycling to table tennis, boxing to swimming our athletes have worked so hard and achieved so much.

Well done to everyone!

Would you like to hear more from some of our athletes?
On Tuesday 15th May we will be holding a Bondholder Breakfast with Bondholder Derbyshire Institute of Sport (DIS) at Derby Arena where we will get the opportunity to speak to some of the successful athletes who are supported by DIS.

Keep an eye out for the invite which will be in your inboxes soon....

Derbyshire going for Gold

Bondholder The Derbyshire Institute of Sport (DIS) is proud to confirm that 11 of their supported athletes will be heading to Australia over the coming days for the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

Team England have selected 10 DIS athletes to be part of their swimming, cycling, athletics and table tennis teams. A further DIS cyclist has been selected to be part of Team Scotland.

When the last Commonwealth Games took place in Glasgow in 2014 the DIS had 3 athletes taking part. For the 2018 Games this number has more than tripled with 11 athletes travelling to Australia. This is a big step forward for the DIS in achieving their objective of ensuring 20 athletes from Derbyshire become World Class by 2020.

Chloe Maudsley, Head of Operations for DIS: “It is amazing to see so many athletes from Derbyshire going to the Commonwealth Games. They have all worked exceptionally hard and all the team at DIS are very proud to have played a small part in their journey. Our 11 strong team will showcase Derbyshire as a county that can produce athletes who can compete with the best.”

The DIS was inspired by the London Olympic Games and was launched in 2012 as Derbyshire’s legacy programme . Although Derbyshire had produced champions in the past, the aim was to create a systematic model, leaving less to chance, and giving selected athletes the best possible chance of achieving their Olympic/ Paralympic dream.
