Oliver's

Olivers Win National Award

Bondholder Oliver’s café has won the Café Design of the Year Award from the Café Life Association for its innovative and commercially viable design.

Café owner and the woman responsible for the design, Lisa Bridge was presented with the award at a ceremony hosted by celebrity chef Theo Randall held at the Grange City Hotel in London.

The Café Life Awards recognise the very best café food, drink and design from both independently owned and café chains across the country and Oliver’s was the only café in the region to be shortlisted.

Lisa has previously worked on numerous commercial design projects, including fellow Bondholder Birchover Residences’ portfolio of luxury apartment-hotels, which she jointly owns with her husband Carl.

Commenting on the win, Lisa said: “I am absolutely thrilled to have won this award. I always knew I wanted to use natural materials, warm colours and soft, comfortable furnishings to make Oliver’s as comfortable as possible. Our menu and interiors have been designed for customers to enjoy and it’s so exciting to be acknowledged in such a highly competitive industry.

“It is really important to me that the craftsmen who helped me make my vision for Oliver’s a reality get huge recognition for their work too. They have made Oliver’s what it is today.”

Sam Day, from the Café Life Awards, added: "Oliver's has a great back story and the design demonstrates the labour of love that owner Lisa has put in to creating the space. The judges loved the ambience that has been created with the cosy booths and intimate lighting.

"Winners like Oliver's showcase the developments within the industry and the need to demonstrate creativity. Oliver's has  a unique design that showcases the coffee shops' personality without compromising on comfort. The team at Oliver's have responded to the growing café culture and developed a business that serves the local community whether passing by for a quick coffee or enjoying lunch with a friend."

Oliver's Shortlisted for National Award

Bondholder Oliver's has been shortlisted for the prestigious national Café Design of the Year award.

The awards are run by The Café Life and celebrate the best aspects of café culture in the UK each year. Oliver’s is one of just five cafes across the UK in the design award category.

This category looks to encourage good design practices in the sector and this particular award recognises those people responsible for developing new concepts in the high street. Oliver’s was originally included by the judges in a wider shortlist and they then visited Derby to mystery-shop and see the design of Oliver’s, whilst experiencing the food, ambience and customer experience on offer.

The judges look for design which is innovative, but commercially viable – a design which provides an attractive and comfortable experience for all customers.

Lisa Bridge, Owner of Oliver's, said: “I always had a vision of using natural materials, warm colours and soft, comfortable furnishings to make Oliver’s as welcoming as possible. Each item of furniture and all of the fixtures and fittings were selected with the customer experience in mind. I’m thrilled that the judges feel that this works well.”

The awards take place in London on 21st September at The Grange City Hotel in London.

Gethin Evans of the Café Life Awards said: “It’s fantastic to be able to acknowledge Oliver’s and how their brand of coffee shop is changing the café landscape. Oliver’s is a cafe that soothes the soul, whether that be sipping a coffee and watching the world go by or tucking into something from the mouthwatering menu.

"Oliver’s is pioneering the fusion between coffee shop and restaurant - promoting a welcoming place that serves delicious coffees alongside a tasty menu. The judges loved the ambience, encouraging customers to stay. Cafe culture in the UK is one of the fastest growing lifestyle choices and Oliver’s is a cafe that delivers, offering a space where customers can enjoy spending time in a modern but cosy environment.”
