Bondholders support Leigh Timmis world record attempt

Derby cyclist and adventurer Leigh Timmis has secured sponsorship for his world record cycle ride across Europe from fellow Bondholders Ace Sameday Couriers and Mount Cook Adventure Centre.

Ace Sameday Couriers has stepped forward to support Leigh as the headline sponsor for the challenge.

Leigh said: "It is amazing to have the guys on board as the headline sponsor and I am really looking forward to working with them not just on this project, but into the future.
"The fact that it is a courier firm that has come forward is brilliant as in effect I am going from one place to the other as quickly as possible just like these guys do everyday."

Chris Scothern, business development director for Ace Sameday Couriers, said: "We are really excited to be part of Leigh's challenge, it is going to be really interesting following his progress as he makes his way across Europe.

"We think it is an incredible challenge to take on and we want to support him in any way we can as he is doing it for Derby and Derbyshire.

"The cause he has chosen is something that is very important as well, there needs to be more awareness about mental health and the impact it has on people and we want to get behind it as much as we can."

Leigh, from Oakwood, will set off from the coast of Portugal and aims to cycle 4,000 miles – twice the distance of the Tour de France – in less than 20 days, smashing the current record by at least nine days when he arrives in the Russian city of Ufa.  During the journey he will cross nine countries, the Pyrenees, the foothills of the Alps and the Russian Steppe.

Bondholder Mount Cook Adventure Centre, a Derbyshire-based not-for-profit dedicated to providing access to the outdoors for all, will also be sponsoring Leigh in his attempt to break the Guinness World Record.

Mount Cook’s joint founder and director, Colin Adams, said: “Here at Mount Cook, we share Leigh’s passion and dedication to push the boundaries of human achievement. That is why we have decided to sponsor him in his attempt to break this ultra-endurance cycling record. We hope that Leigh’s record attempt will inspire and excite the young people who visit Mount Cook, and will prove that with enough determination and motivation, anything is possible.”

Leigh said: "I'm delighted to be partnering with Mount Cook and I look forward to a strong record attempt with their support. Mount Cook's aim of providing opportunities to outdoor activities for young people is inspirational and I hope that this World Record will encourage more young people to challenge themselves and to lead physically and mentally healthier lives."

Leigh is also raising funds for the mental health charity MQ, as the roots for his remarkable cycling feats – including spending seven years cycling around the world – lie in the depression he suffered as a younger man.

Leigh has also been supported by Derby businesses Bondholders HUUB and Archer Hampson, Prima Velo, Accrofab and Bondholder The University of Derby Human Performance Unit.
