Federer meets Derby star

Derby's tennis star, Jay Clarke, who is sponsored by Bondholder Morecrofts is to play Roger Federer in the second round at Wimbledon.

At only 20 years old, Jay Clarke is fast becoming Derby’s tennis sensation. Coached by his brother Curtis Clarke and managed by his sister Yaz Clarke, the British number 4 is aiming for a World top 100 place in the next year or so.

For the past two years Bondholder Morecrofts has sponsored Jay Clarke, and this grass court season Morecrofts has also sponsored Jay Clarke's shirts, which have seen him play at numerous tournaments in the UK. Most recently, Jay Clarke (world number 166) faced Noah Rubin of the USA (world number 183) in a gripping first-round tie at Wimbledon. Cheering him on were his family as well as Jared Mitchell – Morecrofts’ Managing Director.

Having won the match 4-6, 7-5, 6-4, 6-4 - an impressive first singles victory at a Grand Slam tournament - Jay will now play tennis legend and eight-time champion Roger Federer in the second round.

After sponsoring the Brit for the last few seasons, Morecrofts are fully behind Jay Clarke in this upcoming match. Jared Mitchell commented "It’s important that we support local talent and Jay is certainly talented. He’s at the business end of the rankings now in tennis terms and the higher you go the harder it becomes, but at 20 years old this young Derby lad has great local support as well as international support.”
