New city living plans for Queens Hall

Bondholder Lathams has developed city living plans for Queens Hall on London Road. The architect has pulled together plans to allow a local building owner to submit a full planning application for 23 contemporary apartments close to the city centre.

The proposed development has been carefully designed to enable the historic former Methodist chapel, now a thriving dance school, to be retained. In addition, the existing locally listed Queen’s Chambers, with its ornate London Road façade, will be preserved and enhanced, providing attractive opportunities for commercial use on this important Derby street.

The new apartments will replace the existing function suite, to create a mix of 1 and 2 bedroom dwellings of character, built around a central courtyard garden. With a new and attractive built frontage promised for Canal Street, the development will complement the ongoing transformation of Castleward, continuing the drive to bring much needed urban living opportunities, and the life and vitality that goes with that, to the city.

Once planning permission is secured the construction phase will commence as quickly as possible, with the new apartments coming to market in late 2020.

The project sits directly opposite the soon to be redeveloped former Derby Royal Infirmary (DRI) site, and represents another key milestone in the sustainable regeneration of this part of the city, providing an attractive and distinctive combination of new and conserved buildings, to enhance the city of Derby.

New Executive City Hotel

Bondholder Birchover Residences has announced that it will be opening a luxury apartment-hotel in south Derby at Merrill Way.

The development will be built on land at the junction with the A514 Chellaston Road that was formerly occupied by the old community police station, which has since been demolished.

The apartment-hotel is aimed at executives from fellow Bondholder Rolls-Royce

Kieran Howell, Birchover Managing Director, said: “We have a long-standing fantastic relationship with Rolls Royce and their supply chain. Their guests love to stay with us even though some of our other Derby apartment-hotels are in the city centre and the northern side of Derby.

Fellow Bondholder Latham Architects have been commissioned to design the construction drawing package.

The development will comprise 9 one bedroom and 3 two bedroom apartments with a staff and laundry room as part of the scheme.

Kieran Howell concludes “Merrill Way is a perfect fit for us. It demonstrates our commitment to growing our footprint in Derby and will be a key platform for our growth strategy in the next few years across the East Midlands”.
