Clear as a Bell

Bondholder Derby Brewing Company has been commissioned to produce a house beer for fellow Bondholder The Old Bell hotel, Derby’s oldest coaching inn.

The brew - a 4.3% easy drinking amber ale - has been named ‘Clear as a Bell’ and is on the bar now.

Derby Brewing Company Director, Paul Harris says, “Offering a house beer is a great way for venues to offer their customers something really personal without having to brew it themselves. We work with the venue to identify the flavour and style of the beer they want then our brewing and marketing teams produce something truly unique that will really stand out on the bar.”

'Clear as a Bell’ joins the extensive list of house beers brewed by Derby Brewing Company which also includes ‘NITBY’ for Kedleston Park Golf Club, ‘Red Cow Ale’ for the Red Cow in Allestree, ‘Nibilick Nobble’ for Breadsall Priory, ‘Quaffable Cosy’ for the Cosy Club Derby, ‘See You at Seven’ for Seven on Pride Park, ‘Five Lamps Ale’ for the Five Lamps Pub and many more.

Bell Hotels owner Paul Hurst said, “As a cask marque approved venue and with so many real ales on offer we are often asked if we are going to brew our own beer as The Old Bell did originally have its own brewery which was established in 1865. Parts of the brewery are still unused to the rear of the building however we decided it was best to let the experts brew something special for us.”

Real ale fans will get to meet the brewer 5pm-7pm Friday 19th October at The Old Bell for the official launch of the new beer.

Beast from the Yeast Donations

Bondholder Derby Brewing Company venues will be donating a portion of the profits from every pint of Beast from the Yeast sold to East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust.

Head Brewer Andy is passionate about pushing the boundaries of brewing and experimenting with flavours and strengths, and this week he has been crafting the company’s strongest beer yet: a 6.2% beast of an IPA. Using Citra, Chinook and Simcoe hops this brew has low bitterness and high flavour. Citrus and tropical fruit bursts make it decidedly drinkable, and the ABV will knock your woolly socks off.

It’s still in the fermenters at the moment but soon will be launched in cask in all DBC venues – The Tap, The Greyhound, The Queen’s Head and The Kedleston – and also available to stockists across the country. The recent weather conditions have also had serious consequences, cutting off many rural communities and leaving travellers stranded. Emergency services have worked tirelessly in extreme environments to get help to those in need. As a gesture of thanks for their dedication all DBC owned venues will be donating a portion of the profits from every pint sold of Beast from the Yeast to East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust.

Derby Brewing Company said: "We raise a glass to our emergency services, the real heroes of the ‘Beast from the East’."

Gin Festival at The Tap

Bondholder Derby Brewing Company is hosting a gin festival at The Tap from Friday 25th August to Sunday 27th August to celebrate the launch of its new drinks menu.

Speaking about the changes Managing Director Paul Harris commented: “Gin is huge right now and while The Tap has always offered a great choice of gins we decided it was time to go all out. There are so many weird and wonderful gins out there that people have never heard of, we wanted to showcase as many of those as we can at The Tap.

"We’ll be changing our gins on a monthly basis so there will always be a new gin to try and we’ll also be launching our own Gin Club soon.”

The Tap now hosts over 70 artisan gins on the menu, offering the widest choice in Derby.

Speaking of the event Bar Manager Ed Gibson commented: “We’re rather proud of our great selection of artisan gins, there is such a diverse and mind blowing array available I’m sure that you won’t be disappointed.

"My personal favourite is a new western gin Capreolus Garden Tiger Gin, The Whiskey Exchange’s spirit of the year. With an enticing aroma from the Seville blood orange, it’s certainly a must try for any gin lover. We’re also lucky to be supported from tonic supplier Fever Tree who will be having a stand at our Gin Festival and are on hand to recommend the best flavoured tonic to go with our amazing gins.”

Paul Harris, Director, said: “To have reached over 50% of our £500,000 target at this stage of the campaign is great. The support from both our local customers and DBC fans as well new investors has been overwhelming. We couldn’t have got this far without such support.

"Following feedback, during the campaign we’ve not only increased our level of equity on offer but we have also added a new £500 investment reward level which includes a tutored beer tasting amongst its rewards.
