Blueprint's Facelift for Chamber

Bondholder Blueprint Interiors has given a facelift to the new head offices of fellow Bondholder East Midlands Chamber.

The firm was tasked with transforming the empty office block in Chesterfield, into modern, open-plan workspace which will house East Midlands Chamber and its 90+ staff.

The 4-week project saw Blueprint develop the concept, design the two-storey, 13,000 sq ft space, source the furniture, materials and equipment and then carry out the refurbishment and fit out.

Blueprint incorporated the Chamber’s three main brand colours – red, green and blue – into the overall design, as well as providing modular workstations to make use of the open-plan space, and creating several innovative storage solutions.

Scott Knowles, the Chamber’s Chief Executive, said:  “We are very happy with the result and with the service we got from Blueprint.

“Chesterfield was the oldest and most run-down of all our offices, now it is our most modern, with great flexibility, a good mix of meeting rooms that members can hire and areas where people can work away from their desks.”

Contract Wins for Pattonair

Bondholder Pattonair has won the company’s first contract from All Nippon Airways (ANA) to support the airline’s global MRO network.

Under the agreement signed this month, Pattonair will stock and parts for maintaining and repairing ANA’s Rolls-Royce Trent 1000.  

Using its global footprint, Pattonair will enhance the service to ANA’s global MROs, with Pattonair holding stock parts at its Singapore facility and at other dedicated facilities in specified regions.

The University's Creative Gurus

The University of Derby’s Internship Programme recently had a creative makeover thanks to fellow bondholder, threeguru, whilst the programme itself gained a #DIP100 new recruit.
 
After successfully winning the University’s pitch, the gurus developed a vibrant new communications campaign.  Involving two different facets for both the student and prospective employer, the new creative had to appeal to both audiences, whilst maintaining a clear University brand identity. 
 
Talking about the new campaign, University of Derby Employer and Community Engagement Manager, Amber Woodfull said  ‘We have found working with threeguru on the branding for the Derby Internship Programme a refreshing and enjoyable experience.  The team are responsive, friendly and creative with equal measure (not to mention patient!) and have transformed our brand into a cohesive and engaging campaign that makes a great impact’

$1.7bn Order for Rolls-Royce

Bondholder Rolls-Royce has won a $1.7bn order from Singapore Airlines for Trent 1000 engines to power 19 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. The engines will be covered by Rolls-Royce’s flagship engine service, TotalCare®.

The order builds on a decades-long strong relationship between Rolls-Royce and Singapore Airlines. In addition to the Trent 1000, operated by its subsidiary Scoot, Singapore Airlines also operates the Trent XWB, Trent 900, Trent 800 and Trent 700.

Eric Schulz, Rolls-Royce, President – Civil Aerospace, said: “The Trent 1000 has real momentum in the marketplace, winning more than 60 per cent of engine competitions in the last six years.

"We are excited and honoured by the continued confidence of Singapore Airlines in the Trent 1000 engine, and in particular our latest and most advanced version, the Trent 1000 TEN.”

Bondholders' Charitable Collaboration

Bondholder Black Apricot has joined forces with fellow Bondholder Treetops Hospice Care for a rebrand of the charity’s annual sponsored walk.

The Starlight Strut, formerly known as the Moonlight Walk, attracts over 600 women to walk a 5k and 10k route through Derby city at night, raising money for the hospice. Treetops provides nursing care and emotional support for adults, their families and carers across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

Now in its eighth year, Treetops were keen to reinvigorate the ladies-only sponsored event and at a Bondholder event hosted by the hospice, corporate fundraiser Kathryn Box met  design agency Black Apricot. 

Kathryn explained: "We always welcome opportunities to invite people to the hospice to see what we do here and how we support local people.

“We hosted a Bondholder Breakfast back in November and met staff from Black Apricot .We started talking and here we are!

“This is a great opportunity for us to work with a local design agency with fresh ideas and lots of enthusiasm. They’ve come up with a brilliant new logo to go with our relaunch and we’re sure it will help to make this year’s walk a big success.”

The Starlight Strut takes place on Friday 19 May starting at 10pm - the same time that Treetops Hospice at Home nurses start their shifts supporting patients in their homes. Last year, the walk raised over £55,000 for the hospice.

Black Apricot has worked with Treetops to design a new Starlight Strut logo and marketing materials.

Sach Parmar, creative director, explained how Black Apricot has also benefitted from the partnership: “At Black Apricot, our roots have always been firmly in the local community and we regularly work with local schools and charities to give a little back. 

“I have personal experience of the extraordinary work that the Treetops Hospice Care team undertake every day, so it has been a delight to be able to help on a practical level.”

Kathryn added: “We organise many different events throughout the year, based both here at the hospice in Risley and out in the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire communities.

£10M Facilities Launched by Bondholders

Bondholder Radleigh Homes, alongside fellow Bondholder Derby City Council, has launched a new development of extra care apartments on the site of the former Bath Street Mill.

Located at the gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage Site and overlooking the River Derwent and Darley Park, the new £10m development  consists of 82 extra care apartments spread over four storeys.

All apartments have two bedrooms, a spacious open plan kitchen, dining and living area and a fully accessible wet-room.

The development also features other facilities, including a courtyard garden, restaurant/café and shop, along with hobby and therapy rooms, laundry room and mobility scooter store with charging points.

Work on the project, which has been a unique and very complex one, started early 2014 and was handed over to Derby City Council in 2016.

Following a ribbon cutting ceremony, there were speeches from Councillor Fareed Hussain Cabinet Member for Urban Renewal, Chris Neve, managing director of Radleigh Homes and Maria Murphy, managing director of Derby Homes.

Councillor Fareed Hussain, Cabinet Member for Urban Renewal, said: “It is great that as a council we can invest in schemes such as this which help provide accommodation to people with a mix of care and support needs. It will not only support members of the public but form part of the river defence which is important for us as a city.”

Chris Neve, joint managing director of Radleigh Homes, said: “The story of the redevelopment of Bath St Mill into this fabulous extra-care facility is a wonderful example of the energy, commitment, mutual respect, teamwork, skill and positive attitude shown by every single person involved in this project - from the team at Derby City Council and Derby Homes to all the specialist architects, engineers and the entire building team involved on the 18-month build programme.

Earlier this week Radleigh Homes had been acquired by Redrow PLC, allowing Redrow to expand its operations in the East Midlands, and establish a new division in the region.

A Creative Collaboration

DerbyDaysOut.co.uk has called upon fellow Bondholder DE22 Creative to help in its rebrand. 

Managing Director of DerbyDaysOut.co.uk explains how the company was ready for a new look: “Our website was launched in 2015 and has gone from strength to strength in so many ways including website visitor numbers and business partnerships created.

"I felt that 2017 was the perfect time for us to have our logo ‘freshened up’ and we knew that DE22 Creative would be the best people to contact.” 

After DE22 Creative gave DerbyDaysOut two concepts to choose from, they decided to open it up to public voting. Natalie explains the reason behind this: “Our social media followers are very important to us as a business and we feel we have a strong connection with them, therefore we wanted them to have a say in the new logo."

The winning design, ‘The Heart of Derby’, uses abstract vector icons that represent different things that can be done in Derby whilst forming the shape of a hand already associated with the brand identity.

Déda and Derby College to Develop Students

 

Bondholders Derby College and Déda have teamed up to broaden students’ employability skills and career opportunities across the creative arts industry.

The Déda Creative Arts Employer Academy is the latest in the Derby College initiative to match students with local businesses and organisations – providing them with work experience, special projects, masterclasses and mentoring.

Performing Arts students, based at the nearby Joseph Wright Centre, already use the studio facilities at Déda which is the region’s dance house focused on fusing dance with contemporary circus and outdoor performance.

As well as rehearsing and performing as part of their BTEC level two and three courses, students have been involved in various projects including the annual Derby Festé.

Eighteen of the students have now joined the Employer Academy and will have additional opportunities to be involved with Déda.

They will have extra performance opportunities to develop their dance performance skills and will also gain a greater insight into the wider career opportunities in the creative arts industry.

They will gain teaching experience with Déda Youth groups - working with children and young people aged four to 19, in a range of styles, techniques, genres and artistic forms from Ballet to Youth Acrobatics.

Déda Head of Dance Development and Learning Clare Limb said: “We have a strong relationship with Derby College and the Performing Arts courses so it was a natural step to formalise this into an employer academy.

“There are a wide range of career pathways in the Creative Arts and the Employer Academy will broaden the students’ outlook on their opportunities whether that be in performing, teaching, choreography, marketing or technical production and venue management.”

Derby College Deputy Principal, Employer and Economic Affairs, April Hayhurst, added: “Nationally around 300,000 people are employed directly in the music, performing and visual arts industry and this number grows significantly year on year.

“The creative arts industry is also a significant element of the region’s tourism industry which is a priority growth sector for the D2N2 local enterprise partnership.

“Working with a highly regarded organisation such as Déda is therefore a valuable way of broadening our students’ horizons and increasing their employability skills for their future careers.”

Salloway put Network Rail on Track

Bondholder Salloway Property Consultants has leased one of Derby’s most prominent industrial warehouses at Millennium Way, Pride Park, to the owner and operator of the nation’s railway infrastructure, Network Rail. 

The 30,000 sq.ft unit, which is located opposite Bondholder Derby County’s Pride Park Stadium, has been let after a successful marketing campaign.

The deal was put together by Chris Keogh, Associate at Salloway.

Chris said: “To have landed a covenant of the caliber of Network Rail is obviously a welcome result. There is an acute shortage of good quality warehouse space on the market and I am sure Network Rail will be delighted not only to have found the right building solution but crucially, one that is within short proximity of their existing facilities in Derby.”

“There is no doubt in my mind that this underlines Derby’s importance to the national rail network.”

The sublease was signed shortly before the Christmas break and Network Rail have now taken occupation and the deal will initially see Network Rail occupy the warehouse for potentially 4 years.

Purely RDS

 

Bondholders Purely Digital and RDS Global have worked together on a project to raise awareness around IT and Cyber Security.

Purely Digital were commissioned by RDS to create posters for display at a recent motor industry exhibition. The print warned attendees of the perils of cyber security, and advertised the fact that 96% of small businesses have been hacked in the last 12 months.

The posters were utilised in guerilla marketing techniques, placed on walls, toilet stalls, the back of other people’s stands and on many obscure objects, and proved a success. 

RDS Global has generated a substantial amount of revenue off the back of Purely Digitals static backed printed HACKED posters. 

Musical STEM

Bondholders Sinfonia Viva, Rolls-Royce and Derby Museums Trust have teamed up to launch a creative project that focuses on bringing science, technology and maths to life through music.

The project, entitled ‘Mechanical Advantage’ has been inspired by the gears, levers and pulleys aspects of the key stage two national curriculum following feedback from school teachers about the need to tackle the subject in a more creative way.

Pupils from Chellaston Academy and Bondholder Derby College are working with Viva musicians to compose songs and music on the themes.

They will perform these on February 7 alongside a Sinfonia Viva chamber orchestra at Derby Theatre with a matinee concert for other schools in the city and then at a public concert in the evening.

To launch the project, school and college students recently joined an ‘inspiration day’ at Derby Museum and Art Gallery where they tried out the practical with Rolls-Royce STEM ambassadors.

The students also worked with Viva musicians and composer James Redwood who introduced the songs and music that he has composed with words written by Hazel Gould.

They then went on to gather in the Museum’s Joseph Wright of Derby Gallery to learn more about the work of the famous 18th century painter and philosopher who was acclaimed as the first professional painter to express the spirit of the Industrial Revolution.

Rolls-Royce Engineer and STEM Ambassador Carl Muldal said: “By incorporating scientific messages in a musical context we hope that teachers and pupils alike will be able to look at this subject in a new light. This would give them a better understand of the mechanics behind processes that are a part of everyday life.”

New Spark for Matchstick

Bondholder Matchstick Design has integrated into global marketing services agency Sine Qua Non International (SQN).

The company, founded in 2006 by businesswoman Laura Faulkner, will now trade under Sine Qua Non International (SQN).

The two companies have collaborated since 2009 on an array of projects for an impressive portfolio of clients within the sports, automotive and technology sectors, including fellow Bondholder Toyota Manufacturing UK

Laura Faulkner said: "We are thrilled to be moving forward as part of an extended SQN team and hope that our existing clients will benefit from the expanded range of marketing services that we can now offer them. Rolls-Royce's Stellar Start to 2017

Bondholder Rolls-Royce has had a stellar start to 2017, with two key announcements. 

Firstly, the aerospace giant has welcomed the announcement of a firm contract between Airbus and Iran Air for the supply of 100 aircraft.
 
The agreement includes 16 Airbus A350 XWB aircraft which are powered exclusively by the Trent XWB engine. The Trent XWB is the world’s most efficient large aero engine and was designed specifically for the aircraft. With over 1,600 units sold, it has become the world’s fastest selling widebody engine.
 
Also included in the agreement are 38 aircraft from the Airbus A330 family. The Trent 7000 engine is the exclusive power plant for the A330neo aircraft, while the Trent 700 is the engine of choice for the A330ceo, with approximately 60 per cent of current market share and more than 90 per cent of the order backlog.

Rolls-Royce has also entered into its first ever SelectCare services agreement for Trent engines with Delta Air Line.

Greg May, Senior Vice President, Delta Air Lines, said: “We are excited to be starting this new phase in our relationship with Rolls-Royce. SelectCare provides us with a flexible solution for our Trent 800 powered fleet and matches our individual needs for this engine.”

Flint Bishop Award University Students

Bondholder law firm Flint Bishop has awarded bursaries to two students from fellow Bondholder, the University of Derby.

Sayra and Molly, both third-year Law LLB (Hons) students, competed against other applicants to gain a position of work within the firm.

David Hodgkinson, Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Derby, said: “Both Sayra and Molly have gained commercial awareness, knowledge of the importance of client objectives and attained advanced legal skills to support their understanding of substantive law during their studies at Derby Law School.

“It is clear that their academic and professional creativity has been developed as well as an inherent ability for learning legal consequences and applying them in real world practice. I am certain both Sayra and Molly will be valued assets to Flint Bishop and I am very happy for both as they develop their legal careers.”

London-based Prosperity Capital Partners has announced plans to develop a second student accommodation building in Derby.

Following on from its successful £20.3m, 350 unit Cathedral Court scheme, which opened this September, plans have now been submitted to develop around 300 units in a new building on Cathedral Road.

The deal was brokered by Rigby & Co, alongside FHP, on behalf of the owner,  Peter Gadsby of Cedar House Investments.

Peter Gadsby said: “We considered a number of different commercial and residential schemes for this site, but ultimately were satisfied that Prosperity Capital Partners will meet the growing expectations of Derby’s student market – and this deal ensures there will be development activity in this region."

Gavin Barry, CEO of Prosperity Capital Partners, added:  “We were keen to build on the success of our Cathedral Court scheme and develop further high quality, contemporary accommodation for Derby’s students. Bondholder RDS Global, a leading IT support provider for SMEs, is celebrating doubling the number of cyber security audits performed by the company.

The company is also the only IT support provider in the East Midlands who are IASME accredited to not only provide Cyber Essentials audits, but also assess and deliver the entire process from start to finish with an in house team of experts. 

RDS Global already have big plans in place for 2017, and is helping small businesses around the UK get cyber ready ahead of the new data protection laws which come into place in 2018.

College Grows Employer Partnership

Bondholder Derby College is expanding its range of work experience and potential job and apprenticeship opportunities for Construction learners, by working in partnership with even more local employers.

The College will be working with national painting and decorating company the Bell Group, to offer work experience throughout the year.

April Hayhurst, Derby College’s Deputy Principal – Employer and Economic Affairs, said: “Construction is a growth industry and a D2N2 priority and we now have every aspect of the industry catered for through our innovative Employer Academy programme to ensure that young people have the skills that businesses need in this area.

“We already work alongside a number of Derby-based construction companies to support learners on a range of Construction trade programmes and with a broad spectrum of employers involved in the professional construction industry, so we are delighted that Bell Group has joined this programme.

“These companies recognise that the Employer Academy programme is an important way of developing curriculum programmes that deliver the skills they need in their own workforce. 

“It also provides them with a potential pipeline of future employees and apprentices and employees to address skills shortages that many are facing.

“Our aim is therefore simple: to help smooth the transition from education to employment and with that, fill skills gaps in key industries across the city and region.”

MX's Law of Design

Bondholder MX Display has worked in conjunction with fellow Bondholder the University of Derby by designing and installing high-quality printed graphics and signage in the new Law School. 

Earlier this year Derby Law School invited MX Display to design a range of wall graphics for their brand new building in the heart of the city.

MX took inspiration from English law history, with the Great Charter; Magna Carta used as boardroom wallpaper. The use of this famous text reflects the building’s historical location and connects with the Law School’s primary function.

A Spokesperson for MX said: 'It was a great project to be involved with, allowing the building to keep its branding within its learning spaces, which we are sure has inspired the students of the Law School."

 

 

Rolls-Royce to Power Aircalin

Bondholder Rolls-Royce has won an order from New Caledonian airline Aircalin for Trent 7000 engines to power two Airbus A330neo aircraft.

This is the first time a Rolls-Royce engine has been chosen by Aircalin.
