New city centre gallery

Bondholder David Brown Commercial has agreed the sale of the former Laura Ashley retail unit in Derby city centre to fellow Bondholder Artcore for a new gallery.

Zahir Shaikh, Artistic Director from Artcore commented “Acquiring our new city centre location has been a landmark achievement for Artcore. We will be transforming the space into a modern gallery to showcase contemporary art exhibitions and host local, national and international exhibitions. We will provide artist residency spaces to support local talent, create maker and artist studios, have an experiential space for art workshops and a creative cafe where local creatives can meet. Finally, there will be a retail space for local makers to sell their products.

The prominent unit occupies a corner position at Osnabruck Square and benefits from large open plan ground and first floor retail areas with ancillary accommodation and a substantial return glazed frontage.

Michael Green, Surveyor from David Brown Commercial commented “We are delighted to have found a purchaser for the former Laura Ashley building, particularly an organisation such as Artcore who have massive plans for the property and the local area.”
