A hat-trick of new local brands are due to be welcomed by intu Derby this summer, following a national retail initiative, HATCH, launched by Revo.
HATCH is an initiative, launched by Revo – a national organisation that helps retail, property and placemaking to thrive. The campaign offered entrepreneurs and budding business owners the opportunity to set up their own shops in popular retail destinations with rent, service charges and business rates covered for the first six weeks.
Bringing an independent flavour to the intu Derby centre will be Derby-based loaded doughnuts maker, Project D and Burton-on-Trent’s Solesmith, which designs personalised socks that have featured on This Morning and EastEnders, will both be opening their first retail stores in intu Derby this summer.
Design 44, which curates a range of quirky UK and Scandinavian gifts and homeware, will be opening its second shop in Derby as part of the scheme.
Adam Tamsett, general manager at intu Derby, said: “The face of retail is changing and we’re seeing that customers want more choice between the nation’s favourite retailers and smaller, independent brands.
“intu Derby welcomes more than 22 million shoppers a year and we’re confident that Project D, Design 44 and Solesmith will be a huge hit once they open their doors to the public later this summer.
intu Derby had originally signed up to support one new retailer but following the high quality and diverse range of applicants, it will now be welcoming all three unique brands to the centre, which will also be given access to business and marketing support from the British Independent Retailer’s Association, plus a year’s free BIRA membership.
Samantha Sen, head of policy and campaigns at Revo, said: “We’d like to wish a huge congratulations to Project D, Design 44 and Solesmith. intu Derby will be the perfect incubating space for them to allow them to take their brands to the next level.”
