Derby and Derbyshire delegates on a business mission to China, held an Embassy event in the city’s twin city, Hefei.
Over 200 guests, from government and global businesses, heard from Barry Lewis, Leader of Derbyshire County Council and Chris Poulter, Leader of Derby City Council on the developing relationship between our city and county and Hefei and Anhui Province.
Keynote speaker was Deng Xiang Yang (pictured above), Vice Governor of Anhui Province - twinned with Derbyshire and with a population of 65 million people - who said "this reception is an excellent platform for further pragmatic co-operation."
Barry Lewis said at the Embassy "We came to build bridges for economic growth for the benefit of all", with Chris Poulter highlighting some of the partners involved in the city and county's mission. "Our delegation includes Bowler Motorsport, Bloc Digital, TrainFX and Phoenix Nirvana International Energy, and we were joined at the World Manufacturing Convention by the University of Derby."
On his first trip to China as part of the delegation, Keith Cox of Bloc Digital said "I'm overwhelmed with the possible opportunities and on day one we got a live job which would not have happened without being in China."
Marketing Derby's films 'Invest in Derbyshire' and 'Capital for Innovation' were well-received by the audience, and a brochure of investment opportunities in Derby and Derbyshire was provided to guests.
