This Saturday, The Amber Room is teaming up with VBakes to bring you Derby’s first Sustainable Saturday of 2019, a boutique style shopping experience with vegan treats, complimentary refreshments and special offers up for grabs.
Both The Amber Room and VBakes provide services that are two of the most easily attainable, sustainable practices we can implement into our daily lives to help us be kinder to our planet.
Local entrepreneur, Sarah Garlick, founded The Amber Room in 2018 when she spotted a gap in Derby’s retail scene for a high-quality vintage store. Everything in the shop, including everything used for the fit-out, is either second hand or sourced from sustainable, ethical companies in order to fit with the business values and mission statement – to avoid adding to the problem of mass consumption.
Sustainable fashion is on the rise, with high-end designers and high-street brands beginning to introduce sustainability into their collections. The Amber Room offers local people the chance to contribute to the circular economy by ensuring clothes are getting the wear they were designed for, and not contributing to the millions of tonnes of landfill and pollution that the fashion industry is already responsible for.
The Amber Room has previously collaborated with brands from Ghana, India and South America who support factories with fair wages, shifts and education for local workers as well as Boho Dust, a company that makes biodegradable glitter.
Sarah commented: “Sustainable Saturday gives us the chance to showcase the products we’re passionate about to a new audience, and for people to experience our ethical values first-hand – something that is incredibly relevant and arguably essential in today’s society. Additionally, we love supporting other small businesses and believe the collaboration and sharing of ideas can only be positive for the local community and economy.”
Sustainable Saturday takes place this Saturday, 26th January at The Amber Room, 118 Ashbourne Road, Derby, 10am – 4pm.
