A group of inbound and outbound travel agents from China visited the area with a view to encouraging more Chinese tour operators to include the region in their tour packages.
Senior representatives from Beijing Sun Joy International Travel Service Co. Ltd and China Youth Travel Service Anhui Co. Ltd, joined the tour along with Hino Travel Group, a Chinese inbound travel agent who have been working with Bondholder Derby City Council Tourism Team – VisitDerby since then.
The party arrived in Derby on a Saturday evening before a day in the country on Sunday, visiting Yeaveley Countryside Estate for some rifle shooting and a tour of Kedleston Country House. On Monday the group took Bondholder Derby Cathedral's tower tour before heading out to Chatsworth and Haddon Hall.
Tuesday saw a visit to Bluebells farm for ice cream making and Bondholder Royal Crown Derby for afternoon tea before a reception with the Mayor of Derby at the Council House. The visitors also spent time in the City Centre, visiting the Silk Mill Pub and Bondholder Old Bell Hotel for evening meals.
Yu Zhang, Deputy General Manager of Hino Travel Group Ltd said "Although Derby was mostly unknown to our customer base in China, we have managed to interest them by presenting a varied and exciting itinerary that will appeal to the Chinese market. The visiting travel agents have said that, following their experience they intend to plan group trips to Derby."
Hino Travel are already getting enquiries from other travel operators that they have been promoting Derby to.
Alex Rock of Derby Cathedral said. "It was a great opportunity to launch The Cathedral Coffee Concerts with the Chinese travel operators. Attracting Chinese group tours would be great for the visitor economy businesses in Derby. Derby Cathedral looks forward to being part of upcoming group programmes."
