Bondholder The Palfrey won the ‘Outstanding Achievement’ Award at Marketing Derby’s Food and Drink Awards a day after re-opening its doors to the public since a fire devastated the award-winning bar.

Only weeks after winning Best Bar at last year’s Food and Drink Awards, a fire ripped through the building of The Palfrey causing extensive damage resulting in them having to close the premises.

This was a devastating time for the mother and daughter owners Sharon and Amie Marlow, but despite the tragedy they have worked tirelessly to re-build the bar and keep the business going in alternative venues.

It first opened an outlet at The Post House on Victoria Street - which hosts several restaurants and bars in one building - and more recently it has set up serving food at the Queenies Tea Room near Quarndon.

After nearly a year of refurbishment our winner re-opened its doors to the public on Sunday 7th October and will be hosting a party weekend on 12th and 13th October to celebrate its re-opening.

John Forkin, Managing Director of Marketing Derby, said: “The resilience shown by the duo has been amazing. They have overcome so much and this award recognises how hard they have worked to keep the name of their business alive.”

Talking about the award Sharon and Amie said: “It is an honour to receive this amazing award, we are overwhelmed and delighted.

“Opening The Palfrey was our dream and it was shattered when the fire occurred. Giving up was never an option as we didn’t want to let go of our dream. We want to thank our great staff and loyal customers who have stuck with us through these difficult times. We look forward to celebrating with them next weekend!”
