Students gain 'Loates' of experience

Bondholder LoatesHR have signed an intern from fellow Bondholder University of Derby after she spoke at a Marketing Derby breakfast event.

Kira Williams won a contest among business and human resource students to present at the LoatesHR-sponsored event at the university in April.

She and fellow undergraduate Laura Rose are now working one day a week alongside their course demands and have already impressed so much that the company is hoping to take them on until Christmas and beyond.

LoatesHR director and founder, Sarah Loates, said: “We have developed a very close relationship with the university because I wanted to give something back as I graduated there.

“We took on Laura first for eight weeks at two days a week – then, when she reduced to one day at the resumption of her course, Kira joined us.

“We believe it is really important to develop local talent and we were keen to help develop the best people early in their careers.

“We are delighted to sign both Kira and Laura and hope they are the first of a wave of university students to join us.

“In fact, we would say that other companies should follow suit if students in other fields are of their standard.”

Kira said: "LoatesHR have provided me with a fantastic opportunity that has allowed me to gain a greater insight into how the concepts I have learned at university applied into real life."

Laura added: “"Whilst working at LoatesHR I have gained invaluable experience of seeing how an HR team works. Working in such a supportive environment has helped me develop from a university student into a growing young professional."

Bev Crighton, the University of Derby’s External Engagement Lead, said: "We, at the University of Derby, very much appreciate the commitment which LoatesHR has shown towards developing our students.

"Sarah Loates has been a motivational guest speaker and mentor for some time and we thank her and her team for offering these new internships which are a wonderful opportunity for two talented young people.

"I hope our relationship with LoatesHR continues to blossom."
