Derby has climbed into the top 10 of a table ranking the UK’s best towns and cities to work in - placed higher than Nottingham, Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool and Bristol.
Research by job and recruiting website Glassdoor has placed the city eighth overall, four places higher than its 12th place ranking last year.
The study compared each town and city across three factors: how easy it is to get a job, how affordable it is to live there and how satisfied employees are.
In the research, Glassdoor said that Derby had 10,784 job openings, a job satisfaction score of 3.5 out of 5, with a median base salary of £25,000 and a median home value of £203,389.
It said the most popular roles available in the city were for management accountants, account managers and security officers.
In last year’s study, Derby was ranked one place ahead of Nottingham, which was 13th. In this year’s research, Nottingham slipped one place to 14th.
In terms of other large cities included in the research, Birmingham was 15th, Leeds 18th, Liverpool 19th and Bristol 22nd.
Some of the UK’s biggest cities did not make the top 25 this year, including London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Sheffield.
