Herts-based property developer, Jensco, has been named as the development partner for new city centre offices in Derby’s Cathedral Quarter.
Under the agreement, Derby City Council will sell the land to Jensco who will design and build 34,000 sq ft Grade A office space, designed to be let as a whole or on single floors. The Council will lease the property under a long-term lease agreement with an option to purchase the freehold at the end of the lease.
Derby’s Grade A office stock has been in short supply in recent years, providing a challenge businesses looking to grow in or relocate to the city. After initially planning to develop the scheme themselves, the Council decided to pursue a partnership approach with the private sector following successful discussions at MIPIM.
Planning documents have been submitted, with construction expected to get underway in early 2019.
Nigel Bobroff of Jensco said, “We are delighted to have been chosen to deliver a modern, vibrant and beautifully designed workplace of tomorrow for Derby City Council. The development of this environmentally focussed Grade A building will bring all the benefits of working in the city centre and deliver an inspirational destination building in a prime location.”
Jensco have a track record for delivering iconic buildings in Derby after completing work on Friar Gate Square and Agard Court this year, now home to the University of Derby Law School and a 244-bed student accommodation scheme.
