Innes England 'guide' the way

Bondholder and award-winning commercial property agency, Innes England, is celebrating the life-changing work of Guide Dogs UK by handing over a cheque for over £4,000 in Guide Dogs Week (6 October to 14 October 2018)

Innes England announced Guide Dogs UK as its charity of the year in January. Since then, the Innes England team has run a number of events to raise £10,000 in total for the organisation, which helps blind and partially sighted people across the UK by providing guide dogs, mobility and other rehabilitation services.

Tim Garratt, managing director at Innes England, presented a cheque for £4,581.68 to Jane Shelley, Community Fundraising Development Officer for Guide Dogs at the company’s Nottingham office. The Guide Dog owner who inspired the company to support the charity, Terry Rodgers and his dog, Emett, were also present.

Tim said: “We’ve seen at first-hand the difference guide dogs make to their owners through our association with Terry, who ran the entertainment at one of our staff parties. It’s Emett who gives Terry the confidence and freedom to travel independently on public transport.

“He’s really captured the imagination of the staff and we’ve had some great fund-raising activities, including an auction at our staff away day and lots and lots of bake sales.

“In January, our aim was to raise enough to support at least one Guide Dog puppy through its first year of training – and we achieved that by May. I’m delighted that we’ve now raised enough to support two puppies.”

Jane Shelley added: “Guide Dogs Week marks the anniversary of our very first working guide dog which was trained in Wallasey, Merseyside. Since the 1930s, we’ve helped over 29,000 people with sight loss lead independent lives.

"It costs over £5,000 to breed and puppy walk each Guide Dog and it’s thanks to our supporters, like Innes England, that we’re able to continue this work. We’re very grateful to Tim and the team for their life-changing gift.”
