Bondholder Derby Grammar School have announced Dr Ruth Norris as their new Head who will start in post in September.
Dr Norris is currently Director of Academic Excellence and Head of History at Denstone College in Uttoxeter. Prior to this she has been Assistant Head at Lichfield Cathedral School.
Tim Wilson, Chair of Governors at Derby Grammar School, said: “The Governors carried out
a thorough process of selection before coming to a decision. Ruth impressed us with her
commitment, and demonstrated her abilities as a dynamic and visionary leader.
We are confident that she has both the passion and determination to take Derby Grammar School forward on the next phase of its development.”
Dr Norris added: “I am delighted and honoured to be taking up the post of Head at Derby Grammar School. It was obvious from my first visit to the School that this is a special place. I very much look forward to working with the outstanding team and to serving the School community.”
The appointment follows the success of student Elliot Butterworth winning a top national prize. Elliot will travel to the House of Lords to pick up the Independent Schools Association (ISA) Whitbread Memorial Prize 2017.
The Whitbread Memorial Prize recognises and celebrates outstanding involvement in, and service to, the wider aspect of school and community life; in conjunction with achieving academic excellence in GCSE results.
