Another 320 University of Derby students are set to move into Derby’s Cathedral Quarter in 2019.
Prosperity Capital Partners has received planning approval for a new landmark student accommodation scheme at a gateway location to Derby’s historic Cathedral Quarter.
The firm, which built Derby’s 350-bed Cathedral Court scheme in 2016, has announced that the building is likely to be operated by Nido Collection as they take their first step into Derby.
Gavin Barry, Chief Executive of Prosperity Capital Partners, said, “This is great news. I’m pleased with the result but not surprised because it’s a great scheme. We’re looking forward to getting started.”
This scheme is the latest in a wave of student accommodation developments in Derby with 1000 new units having been built or received approval recently, with hundreds more still in the planning system, as the city looks to match the accommodation offer for students to the academic and student experience successes of the University of Derby, which recently received TEF Gold Status.
Tom Erskine, Inward Investment Executive at Marketing Derby, said, “This scheme is a significant development for Derby and we feel its scale and design makes a bold statement about the city’s intentions to develop. The economic impact of people living in the city centre cannot be underestimated whilst it is fantastic to see a long-vacant site be utilised in this way.
