Twenty four teams of eight people from a number of local companies and organisations will be vying for medals and trophies in a series of sports from dodgeball to ‘welly wanging’ in the first ever Derby Business Games this Thursday.
It is being hosted by Bondholder the University of Derby at the Sports Centre in Kedleston Road where the action will start at 4.30pm with rounders and dodgeball tournaments.
HUUB Events Race Director Claire Duffin explained: “A lot of Derby businesses support and enter teams in our other major events in the city including the Cycle Derby Sportives and the Jenson Button Trust Triathlon and we were keen to organise an event specifically for local companies and organisations to compete against each other.
“The look and feel of this event will be like the old-school sports day with a series of sporting challenges that will have something for everyone.
“We want this to be a fun and relaxed family day with plenty of friendly competitive spirit – cheered on by family, friends and colleagues.”
Timms’ Managing Partner Fiona Moffat said: “Many of our team have entered major Derby sporting events including those organised by HUUB Events and we are delighted to support the first ever Derby Business Games.
“It is a great opportunity to bring colleagues together for an afternoon of competitive fun and to clarify once and for all just who is the sportiest business in the city.”
Ollie Shearer, Head of Sports Development at the University of Derby, concluded: “We’re looking forward to hosting the first-ever Derby Business Games at the University. It provides a huge opportunity to bring together businesses from across the region and show how serious Derby is about sport.”
