Derby is the second best city in the UK to raise a family, according to price comparison website Moneysupermarket, which analysed 35 of the biggest cities in the UK for their "family friendliness".
Derby took second place thanks to the high level of jobs, highest average salaries and access to green space.
The city's key selling point was that it had one of the lowest average house prices on the list at £148,437 and a low level of crime with 17.1 burglary claims for every 1,000 home insurance quotes.
The research analysed key factors that impact family life, including school rankings, access to green space, likelihood of burglary, house prices, job opportunities and average salary.
Newcastle took the top spot due to the number of top schools, green spaces and low house prices. London fished bottom of the list due to higher price houses, the volume of crime and overcrowded schools.
Kevin Pratt, consumer affairs expert at MoneySuperMarket, said: "Parents naturally want the best for their children, whether it's a good school, Derby is the second best city in the UK to raise a
