Weekly sports sessions within hard-to- reach communities across Derbyshire forms the basis of Sporting Futures’ charity work, with the overall aim of raising aspirations of young people in these areas using the power of sport.
The grant will allow two weekly sessions to be delivered in Normanton for the upcoming year. These will be based at Shaftesbury Park and Normanton Park, both areas which have high rates of disengaged young people who may resort to anti-social behaviour without intervention.
Jodie Hayes, Programme Development Officer for Derby City at Sporting Futures, said: “Normanton has always been a key area for us to work in the city, and this grant has ensured our future within this ward is financially stable. We already have a known presence and rapport with young people in the area and this grant will now allow us to build on the relationships we already have, reaching more young people and helping them to achieve.”
