Developed 20 years ago by Core Design in Derby, Tomb Raider's heroine Lara Croft is now a household name worldwide.
The game series was originally conceived at the now defunct Core Design studios on Ashbourne Road, but the legacy lives on with part of Derby's ring road being named Lara Croft Way, not to mention the references throughout Marketing Derby promotional videos.
Bondholder Derby QUAD will be holding the Lara Croft 20th Anniversary Celebration event with the full catalogue of Tomb Raider games available to play as well as an array of Derby-based memorabilia with 20 years of gaming history.
Also screening as part of the event, Lethal and Loaded is a documentary from 2001 following the rise and success of Core Design's game character Lara Croft. Following the film there will be a Q&A with Core developers including special guests Judith Gibbins, the voice of Lara Croft in Tomb Raider 2 & 3; Iain Simons, Game City/National Videogame Arcade in Nottingham; and Alex Davies, Core Design's Developer for Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness.
The anniversary event takes place at Derby QUAD on Saturday 22nd October from 11am - 4pm and is a free drop-in event suitable for all ages, although children under 12 years must be accompanied by an adult. The Lethal and Loaded screening and Q&A session is at 6pm and will require ticket costing £5 — booking is essential.
