Research by Savills UK has named Derby as one of the top 30 UK locations for casual dining growth opportunity.
The publication of Savills’ Casual Dining in the UK 2016 report reinforces Derby’s position as a high-value growth location for casual dining brands. Powered mainly by a mixture of new entrants, growing and established brands, Derby has seen a number of new openings in the last five years. Alongside the growth of high-quality independent operators, casual dining brands such as Iberico, Byron, Prezzo, Yo Sushi, Turtle Bay and Cosy Club, amongst many others, have chosen to open in Derby. This momentum shows no signs of stopping with Carluccio’s and Loungers set to open in the city in the next few months.
These brands have been attracted to Derby due to the expanding market, high disposable spend in the city and reasonable property costs. Raj Manek, Property Manager at Loungers said "[Marketing Derby's] understanding of how the various retail and leisure pitches worked helped to convince me that Derby presented a fantastic opportunity for our restaurants."
The last decade has seen a resurgence nationally in the amount people are spending on eating out with branded restaurants increasing their presence on the British high street by 55%. With drinking-led venues finding times much harder, it has been branded restaurants that have seen the market grow with average household spend in the East Midlands reaching £2,750 per annum.
