Geoff is Managing Director for the Highways Division at North Midland Construction PLC, and has been a member of the Chamber Board since October 2008.
Geoff Poyzer said: “It is an honour and privilege to be elected President of the biggest business-representative body in the Midlands and one of the largest Chambers of Commerce in the country.”
The new Chamber President has four areas on which he wants to focus – Brexit; the difference between management and leadership; helping business to keep pace with the rapidly changing world of technology; and promoting the ‘great’ East Midlands as a great place to live and work. He also intends to support the Midlands Engine for Growth and Midlands Connect.
Also at the event, six local business were presented with their British Chambers of Commerce Regional Awards for 2016, including Bondholders Purpose Media – High Growth Business of the Year, and HUUB Design – Business of the Year.
The AGM was followed by the Chamber’s State of the Economy Conference which explored the impact on business of Brexit.
With an audience of business leaders from across the region, key speakers and panellists at the event included MPs Nicky Morgan (Loughborough) and Chris Leslie (Nottingham East), and Bondholders Garry Mowbray - Director of Finance at Bombardier Transportation, Nick Freeman – Assistant General Manager of Corporate Planning and External Affairs at Toyota Motor Manufacturing (UK), Barry Naisbitt – Chief Economist for Santander and Mark Deakin – Regional Strategic Director at Turner & Townsend.
