“It was such a simple idea and anybody that could see it, could get it.”
— Paul Cummins

Each of the 888,246 poppies installed in the moat that surrounds the Tower of London marks a British or colonial fatality from World War One.

The idea came from a line in the “living will” of a man who died on the Western Front during the conflict, which Cummins found in Derbyshire two years ago.

Cummins said he was “grateful” for the five million spectators that visited the installation from around the world and the 21,000 volunteers who helped “plant” the poppies.
