Derby is investing in a dramatic £2 billion transformation as part of the Derby Cityscape masterplan, with new retail, leisure, residential and commercial activities being attracted by an innovative masterplan - with £1 billion investment already secured.
Derby could not be accused of standing still - the future will see further hotel, office and leisure developments brought forward with planning permission and secured for a range of iconic schemes. Despite being home to high profile businesses, such as Rolls-Royce and Bombardier. There are several high profile office developments set to significantly enhance Derby's business appeal.
Business accommodation is vital for a thriving economic centre and Derby is attracting a number of good quality hotels to the city. These include the Cathedral Quarter Hotel, Jurys Inn, Hallmark Hotel Derby, Hampton by Hilton and Holiday Inn - all within the city centre core.
Progress is being made on the regeneration of the strategically important Castleward area - the land between the train station and the city centre. The masterplan sees this area transformed into a desirable urban village, boasting tree-lined boulevards and in excess of 1,200 residential units. It's a long-term project set to dramatically improve a considerable area on the edge of the city centre, and forms a significant part of the city's overall regeneration strategy.
All aspects of Derby's transport system are currently attracting interest. The train station is getting a £20m overhaul to provide a more impressive welcome to visitors, the inner ring road is being completed in a £3.6m scheme, a new bus station is about to open with links to the rest of the city re-established.
