Orange Tree expands into Derby's bar scene

The city's Cathedral Quarter is to welcome its latest upmarket bar, The Orange Tree, next month as the East Midlands brand makes its debut in Derby.

Taking over the former Bar Five building in the city centre's George Street, The Orange Tree will bring its unique mix of cocktails, gins, craft beers, wines and of course, real ales.

We noticed a lot of things had changed in the Cathedral Quarter and that it was coming alive. It ticked all the boxes. We loved that building and knew we could work with it straight away.
— Gareth Smith, Managing Director of The Orange Tree Group

Gareth Smith, Managing Director of The Orange Tree Group, explained: "We have always had Derby on our radar but we got a phone call from Marketing Derby about a year ago now and they spent a lot of time showing us around and offering us various buildings."

He continued: "Despite the fact it is slightly off pitch, tucked in George Street, everybody seems to know it. So, before we actually put an offer in, we went and had food in the restaurants and bars around Friar Gate and we were really encouraged with how busy the foodie places were and the bars even on week nights."

Tom Erskine, Inward Investment Executive at Marketing Derby, said: "Having worked with The Orange Tree Group for 12 months, we are delighted that they will be opening on George Street. As one of the leading regional operators of venues in the East Midlands, The Orange Tree will be a fantastic addition to the Derby bar scene and we look forward to seeing the success of their venues in Nottingham, Loughborough and Leicester replicated in Derby."

The Orange Tree opens its doors in Derby on Friday 23rd September.
