“Shell Eco-marathon has provided the University of Derby an excellent engineering platform for the students. They are implementing the theory learned in class to design, build and race their cars. Furthermore, they also gain hands-on practical experience, team building and communication skills, and build their network with other students in Europe.””

Engineering students at Bondholder University of Derby will be taking part in the Shell Eco-Marathon Europe competition, to be held in London.

The students will be challenged to design and build ultra-energy efficient cars, then drive them on a purpose built track. Their creations will be tested to see which can travel the furthest on the least amount of energy.

The University have entered two teams into the competition. A total of 230 teams from across Europe will be taking part.

Dr Dani Harmanto CEng MIED, Programme Leader, said: “This has been a fantastic opportunity and experience for our mechanical engineering students to be part of an international competition.”
