The Engine Room Ignites

A series of events have taken place at MIPIM UK, the UK’s largest exhibition and conference for property professionals, aimed at showcasing the East Midlands as a major player on the devolution agenda. The “Power of 3” strategy sees Derby, Leicester and Nottingham come together with Bondholder East Midlands Airport to promote one of the strongest growth regions in the UK economy. The East Midlands is expected to continue outperforming the UK average for GVA performance, with all three cities in the Top 20 in the UK for GVA per head.

The first event took place in the Business Showcase this morning. A panel discussion was hosted by John Forkin, MD of Marketing Derby and included:

  • Liz Fothergill - President, East Midlands Chamber
  • David Williams - Chair, Geldards LLP
  • Adam Challis - Head of UK Residential Research, JLL
  • Paul Robinson – Chief Executive, Derby City Council
  • This discussion was followed by a second panel focused on investment in the East Midlands.
We are looking forward to showcasing the three cities to show how they are pulling together as one. East Midlands Airport plays a vital part in the growth of the region as a gateway to domestic and international markets
— Andy Cliffe, Managing Director at East Midlands Airport

A networking reception hosted by East Midlands Airport rounded off the day with attendees commenting on the “strength of message” that came across throughout the events and that “eyes had been opened” to the possibilities the East Midlands offers to investors and developers.

Our region has received a great deal of interest and focus in 2015. We are three ambitious cities each with our own identity – each with our own success story, culture of innovation and geographical connectivity
— Martin Rawson, Deputy Leader of Derby City Council
