Derby LIVE Injects Festive Atmosphere
|
|
After the success of the Big Wheel this year, which attracted over 20,000 visitors to the city, the Market Place in Derby is to be home to the city's biggest ever ice rink over the Christmas period.
The Ice Rink, organised by Marketing Derby Bondholder Derby LIVE, is also nearby to the festive market taking place in the Cornmarket. Over a dozen Tudor-style chalets line the street, selling festive foods, unique gifts and winter clothes to keep you warm whilst shopping!

Derby LIVE are also hosting two Christmas shows this year. The traditional pantomime held at the Assembly Rooms is Dick Whittington, whilst the Derby Theatre is home to The BFG. Both shows are on until early January.

Bondholders to Host Festive Parties

|
Several Marketing Derby Bondholders are set to host Christmas parties open to the public over the festive period.
Derby County Football Club play host to Derbyshire's own Thomas Spencer for a Christmas Concert at Pride Park Stadium on Sunday 18th December.
Described as "the solo version of Il Divo", Thomas is joined by American Soprano Erika Grace Powell and Concert Pianist Dom Carter. Tickets are still available.

Other Marketing Derby Bondholders Derbyshire County Cricket Club and Derby College are also holding Christmas events, as well as the hotel trio of Jurys Inn, Hallmark and Cathedral Quarter Hotel in their specially designed venues.

Restaurant Chain to Bring More Festive Joy

|
Restaurant chain Ask, has agreed to open a new branch in Derby, bringing with it more than 30 jobs to the city.
The restaurant confirmed it is to take over the lease of the building in the Market Place, which is planned to open in spring after a £600,000 investment into the site.
Marc Ward, Acquisitions Director at Ask's parent company Gondola, said: “We have been looking for some considerable time to find a suitable opportunity for Ask in Derby. We’ve finally found a site and we’re very pleased to have got it.”
Adam Wilkinson, Chief Executive of Derby City Council, welcomed the investment and creation of jobs.
He said: “This is fantastic news and we are delighted to welcome a quality operator into the heart of the Cathedral Quarter. Derby City Council has worked very closely with Marketing Derby to attract this investment and to bring new jobs for people in the city.”

New Visit Derby eShot
|
|
This week saw the release of the very first Visit Derby eShot, which is aimed at promoting the city to potential tourists.
The Christmas eShot featured exclusive hotel deals in Derby, as well as information on upcoming festive events.
Next year, the Visit Derby eShot will supply news and information on Derby's Olympic Torch weekend which will be held in the Market Place and at the Darley Park Concert in June.
Event reminders for the Winter Beer Festival, FORMAT Photography Festival and other events will also be included.
